Get ready for an exciting day of celebration, connection, and commemoration! The Napier Day Parade and Block Party is back, thanks to a network of community organizations dedicated to transforming the stigma surrounding our neighborhood. This extraordinary event, happening on June 10th, promises to honor the legacy of James C. Napier, unveil the new Tennessee Justice Center, and bring together South Nashville in a spirit of unity and joy.
A Historic Legacy:
The Napier Day Parade and Block Party pays homage to the rich heritage of African Americans in Nashville. Inspired by historic leaders like James C. Napier, Callie House, Tony Sudekum, Frederick Douglass, and Diane Nash, this event is a reminder of the invaluable contributions made by the African American community to our city's legacy.
A Parade with Purpose:
Join us in celebrating the revival of a beloved tradition! In the late 90s and early 2000s, a South Nashville parade brought together a collective of churches. Now, with the relaunch of the Napier Day Parade, we aim to honor our history, celebrate our community, and build bridges of connection. This event is a perfect complement to the Juneteenth festivities happening throughout the month.
Exciting Highlights:
The Napier Day Parade and Block Party is not just about the parade itself—it's a day full of excitement and meaningful experiences. Here's what you can look forward to:
