Faith & Wellness Ministry
Bridging Faith and Wellness for Stronger Communities
Religion is a social determinant of health. Faith shapes how individuals and communities understand healing, cope with struggles, and seek support. For many, especially in Black communities, the church is more than a place of worship; it’s a cornerstone of resilience, connection, and hope.
Our Mission
To partner with Black churches and faith institutions to:
✔ Prevent suicide through early intervention and education
✔ Reduce mental health stigma with faith-friendly dialogue
✔ Improve access to therapy by bridging gaps between spirituality and clinical care
How We Work
Through community mobilization, faith leader advocacy, and public health collaboration, we:
-
Train pastors, leaders, and congregations in mental health first aid & trauma-informed care
-
Partner with faith groups to host workshops on depression, anxiety, grief, and more
-
Connect congregants to culturally responsive therapists
-
Engage pastors to attend pastoral retreats
-
Advocate for policies that support faith-based mental health initiatives
Faith communities shouldn’t have to choose between prayer and therapy—both save lives.
Why This Matters for Black Communities
-
Black Americans are 20% more likely to report serious psychological distress but half as likely to receive mental health care (SAMHSA).
-
Churches are trusted spaces: integrating mental health outreach here breaks barriers.
-
Suicide rates among Black youth have risen dramatically; faith leaders can be lifesaving gatekeepers.
