Empowering College Students

Supporting College/HBCU Mental Health

Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) play a powerful role in educating Black students, yet many still face unmet mental health needs, including anxiety, depression, and stress. Factors like financial pressure, limited resources, and systemic racism can impact well-being and academic success.

Black Mental Health Village partners with HBCUs to expand access to culturally responsive mental health services, education, and campus-based support so students can heal, succeed, and thrive.

HBCU/ College Ambassador Program

The Black Mental Health Village HBCU/College Ambassadors Program is a transformative initiative designed to empower college students to become advocates, leaders, and resources for mental health awareness and support within their communities. This program aims to address the unique mental health challenges faced by Black college students while fostering personal growth, community engagement, and equipping participants with essential mental health tools.

Through this program, students will embark on a journey of personal development, gaining insights into their own mental well-being and building valuable life skills. Participants will engage in workshops, seminars, and interactive sessions led by mental health professionals and community members, focusing on self-awareness, emotional intelligence, stress management, and resilience. These tools will not only enhance their personal lives but also equip them to guide their peers in navigating similar challenges.

Community building lies at the heart of the Black Mental Health Village program. Ambassadors will have the opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals who share a passion for mental health advocacy. They will form a tight-knit network of support, creating a safe space for open conversations about mental health within the unique cultural context of the Black community. This sense of community will extend beyond the program's duration, fostering enduring relationships that continue to uplift and inspire one another.

Ambassadors will be equipped with a toolkit of mental health resources, strategies, and techniques. These tools will empower them to effectively promote mental health awareness, reduce stigma, and provide guidance to their peers. By facilitating workshops, organizing events, and sharing personal stories, ambassadors will help normalize discussions around mental health and encourage their fellow students to seek help when needed.

As part of this program, HBCU/College Ambassadors will:

- Attend Personal Growth Workshops: Engage in interactive workshops focused on self-discovery, emotional regulation, and personal growth, fostering a strong foundation for mental well-being.

- Form a Supportive Community: Connect with fellow ambassadors to build a network of support, fostering a sense of belonging and understanding among like-minded peers.

- Receive Mental Health Training: Gain comprehensive training on recognizing signs of distress, providing peer support, and connecting individuals to appropriate resources.

- Lead Campus Initiatives: Organize mental health awareness events, campaigns, and workshops on their campuses to promote open conversations and destigmatize seeking help.

- Advocate for Change: Collaborate with campus administration and organizations to advocate for improved mental health resources and services tailored to the needs of Black students.

The Black Mental Health Village HBCU College Ambassadors Program strives to empower the next generation of advocates who are well-equipped to drive positive change in mental health perceptions and outcomes. By prioritizing personal development, community building, and practical tools, this program seeks to create a lasting impact on both individuals and their broader communities.
